A representative from the Government's Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Mr Smith, visited Hylands School on Wednesday 15th January 2025 to speak to Year 9 students about the importance of the GCSE options process. The talk highlighted how students’ choices in their academic subjects can shape their future careers and the key role that hard work and engagement across all subjects play in achieving success.

The session was highly interactive, with students keenly participating and asking insightful questions. Mr Smith shared valuable insights on the connections between different subjects and career pathways, emphasising the broad range of opportunities that open up when students commit to their studies and take ownership of their educational journey.

Students were inspired by the discussion, leaving the session more enthusiastic and motivated about the future and the critical choices they face in their educational journey. The talk helped them understand how their options today can lead to a wide range of fulfilling career paths tomorrow.

The school is proud to continue providing opportunities for students to learn from experts in various fields, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about their futures.

Headteacher Chris White said, "We're really excited by the potential of our current Year 9 students as they look ahead to their GCSEs in Summer 2027. We've still got a few spaces in that year group, so please do get in touch and come and visit us if you'd like to join our students on their exciting GCSE journey."
