Hylands School Earns Modeshift Award for Active Travel Initiatives

We are excited to share that we are now into our second year of the Active Travel Ambassador (ATA) programme at Hylands School, in collaboration with Modeshift, an external provider that promotes active and sustainable travel in schools across England.

Last year, thanks to the support of Modeshift, we were awarded £225 in funding, which was used to repair the bike shed in the lower school playground. Additionally, we launched a campaign advocating for the construction of a zebra crossing on Chelmsford Road, aiming to ensure safer travel for all members of our school community.

This year, we are continuing our efforts with a second campaign junction scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, at County Hall in Chelmsford. During this event, we will engage with council leaders to discuss how we have become a more active and sustainable school.

We are pleased to announce that we have already received a Modeshift Certificate for creating a Travel Plan. This document outlines our goals and objectives to make Hylands a greener, more sustainable place for everyone. As part of this ongoing initiative, ATA representatives within the school have begun planning their next campaign. This includes creating posters for display during Form Time, delivering assemblies to entire year groups, and organizing competitions to encourage students to travel to school actively.

We are thrilled with the progress made so far and look forward to continuing our journey towards a more active and sustainable future for Hylands School. Thank you for your continued support.
