Hylands School Celebrates the Launch of Student Council
At Hylands School, we believe in the power of Student Voice — the expression of values, opinions, beliefs, and perspectives of our students. Research shows that student achievement and engagement increase when students have ownership of their school community and their learning. With this in mind, we recently invited all Form Groups from Year 7 to Year 11 to select two Student Voice representatives during assemblies. These representatives were chosen for their ability to listen to their peers' ideas and concerns and work towards making the school a safer, happier, and better place.
Potential representatives were asked to create a presentation and respond to a series of questions during Form Time to demonstrate their suitability for the role.
After a voting process, a group of Student Voice representatives was selected to form the Student Council for each year group. These representatives will meet fortnightly during Form Time to discuss their ideas and concerns, and they will also play a role in events such as Parent Consultation Evenings, House competitions, and charity events.
We are extremely proud of our Student Voice representatives, who work hard to represent our school community. Most students have already participated in their first Student Voice meeting this academic year, where discussions included topics such as the school site and charity initiatives.
We look forward to collaborating with the Student Council on a range of exciting projects throughout the academic year.
