Careers Fair 2024
Hylands School Hosts Successful Annual Careers Fair
Chelmsford, Essex – Hylands School proudly hosted its annual Careers Fair on Thursday, October 24, 2024, attracting a wide array of local employers, colleges, and training providers. Building on the success of previous years, this event provided invaluable career exploration opportunities for students from Year 7 to Year 13.
Throughout the morning, students engaged with a diverse range of exhibitors representing various sectors, including the NHS, construction, childcare, engineering, and aerospace. Local organisations, including Essex County Council, emergency services, law firms, and technical firms, showcased the wealth of career possibilities available in Chelmsford and surrounding areas.
The buzz from our Year 11 student’s remarked,
· “This was really helpful, I now know what I need to do when I finish Year 11.”
· “I know what grades I need to get my apprenticeship”
· I really enjoyed my time today, there were so many different careers”
Year 8 – “It was so lovely to see so many people”
A key focus of the event was the promotion of apprenticeship opportunities. Students were excited to learn about local businesses offering apprenticeship schemes, which allow them to gain practical skills while earning a salary. Discovering competitive salaries associated with higher apprenticeships emphasised the importance of pursuing further education for many attendees.
That's wonderful! It's always inspiring to see former students returning as exhibitors, especially when they've been positively impacted by the Careers Fair. It not only highlights the success of the event in guiding them on their professional journey, but also speaks volumes about their desire to give back and support others in their community. It must have been incredibly rewarding to witness that full-circle moment!
Exhibitors were impressed by the students' professionalism and engagement, commending their excellent behaviour, polite manners, and thoughtful questions. This positive interaction fostered a productive atmosphere for career discussions. “Some of the questions surprised us, we got asked what skills do I need? Do you like working in this industry? What made you go down this career path?”
Feedback from students was overwhelmingly enthusiastic, with many expressing eagerness for future events. Reflecting the general excitement amongst attendees.
Hylands School’s Careers Fair continues to serve as a vital platform for students, helping them explore future career paths and connect with potential employers. The school looks forward to hosting more events that empower students to make informed career choices.
On behalf of the entire team, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the exhibitors for your participation in the event. Your time, effort, and valuable insights made a significant impact, and our students had a truly wonderful experience.
