Welcome from the Headteacher
A Warm Welcome
I am delighted to welcome you to our school.
Hylands School is a happy and friendly school where the atmosphere is productive and supportive for all learners. Our experienced and committed teaching staff aim to stretch and challenge all our students to fulfil their absolute potential and to support students when learning and life is challenging. We are small enough to provide for every child's individual needs and to know what they are capable of academically. We are also large enough to have a full range of GCSE and Post 16 options, academic and vocational that will allow all students a wide and engaging curriculum.
Our supportive governing body work closely with us to set the highest standards and expectations for our students and we take pride in the achievements of our students in all areas of the curriculum and their lives.
In 2016 the school was placed in the top 100 schools for sustained improvement. The trend of improving GCSE results in 2014 and 2015 across the school has been secured due to a culture of determination and resilience among all the staff and students. These results reflect the schools ethos that a pupils "Best Entry" is more important than their "First Entry". Pupils should be given the chance to sit exams when they are ready, not at a set chronological point determined by others. This impacts on the school's head line figures, but not our pupil's, who have achieved above national average outcomes again in 2016.
The school's vision is that all students should be given the best experiences and opportunities whilst they are with us; stimulating a love of learning and aspiration in all the students who join our community.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We are very proud of our school and would be delighted to show you around.
